Lightway Academy was honoured to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they began their inaugural tour of Nigeria with a powerful and inspiring visit to our school. Organized in partnership with the GEANCO Foundation and the Archewell Foundation, the event marked the launch of Lightway’s first-ever Mental Health Summit, further establishing the Academy as a beacon of progressive, values-driven education in Nigeria.

🌿 A Cultural Welcome

Upon their arrival, the Duke and Duchess were greeted with warmth, pride, and a showcase of Nigerian tradition. Students, dressed in vibrant cultural attire, performed welcome songs and dances that reflected the spirit of unity and joy across our school community. The atmosphere was electric—filled with excitement, pride, and anticipation for what would become a truly historic day.

🧠 A Focus on Mental Health

At the heart of the visit was an open and important conversation about mental health—a topic often overlooked but deeply relevant to the lives of young people today.

“There is no shame in talking about how we feel,” Prince Harry said during his address.
“We all experience sadness, stress, or fear. The key is to speak openly about it and seek support.”

The Duchess of Sussex also addressed the students with a deeply personal message, sharing how her recent discovery of her Nigerian heritage made this visit especially meaningful.

“You have a beautiful country, a beautiful culture, and a powerful story,” Meghan shared.
“Your voice matters. And when you embrace your identity, you embrace your power.”

Prince Harry and Meghan spent time visiting multiple classrooms—from interactive sessions with our kindergartners to an impressive STEM class demonstration where students presented their hands-on science projects. Their engagement was sincere and joyful, and students were visibly inspired by their warmth and encouragement.
